Xian Xinghai International Showcase for Young Pianists invites local young talents to submit applications

MACAU, October 30 - Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the “Xian Xinghai International Showcase for Young Pianists” will be held on 22 November at the Ruins of St. Paul’s in Macao. IC is now calling for the participation of local piano talents aged 24 or below (born in or after 2002). The Regulations and designated repertoire are available on the Showcase’s webpage. Applications are open from now on until 6 November. All eligible individuals are welcome to apply.

IC specially organised this event in order to carry forward and promote Xian Xinghai’s patriotic devotion and musical legacy, and to allow more people to learn about his close ties with Macao. The event aims to provide a platform for local young musicians to showcase their talent, facilitate musical and cultural exchange among young people from different countries, and further contribute the establishment of Macao as “a base for exchange and cooperation where Chinese culture is the mainstream and diverse cultures coexist”.

The Showcase will bring together outstanding young pianists from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and other cities in Chinese Mainland, the Portuguese-speaking countries and the Belt and Road Initiative member countries, to perform and exchange ideas, promoting the integration of music cultures as well as mutual learning among different countries and regions, and creating an international, professional and high-quality platform for musical exchange.

Xian Xinghai, known as “the Son of Macao”, was born in Macao and later studied music in France. During the turbulent period of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he composed immortal works such as The Yellow River Cantata, strengthening the national morale through music. His unwavering patriotism and outstanding artistic achievements remain a source of pride for Macao residents.

For the latest information about the Showcase, please visit the webpage of the “Xian Xinghai International Showcase for Young Pianists” at www.icm.gov.mo/cn/CMXXH, “IC Art” page on Facebook, or official WeChat accounts “IC_Art_Macao”.
